Arteriopathy in Waldenstrom's disease.

چکیده
Necropsy reports in Waldenstrom's (1944) disease have been few and unenlightening. This is to be expected in so chemical a disorder as the manufacture of abnormally large globulin molecules, an abnormality that seems suited to the congenital causation recently described (Bottura, Ferrari, and Veiga, 1961). The present report gives, therefore, only a brief report of the disease, its purpose being to throw some light on arterial physiology, in which subject the case has constituted a kind of natural experiment.

INTRODUCTION We report the case of a patient with Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia complicated by spontaneous splenic rupture. CASE PRESENTATION A 49-year-old Caucasian woman was referred to our emergency department by her general practitioner following a three-week history of malaise, night sweats, six kilograms of weight loss, intermittent nausea and vomiting, progressive upper abdominal pai...
متن کاملNonprogressive Unilateral Intracranial Arteriopathy in Children with Arterial Ischemic Stroke
The nonprogressive unilateral intracranial arteriopathy known as transient (focal) cerebral arteriopathy is not a well-recognized arteriopathy among practitioners of Korea and Japan, although it cannot be easily differentiated from early moyamoya disease. This review summarizes the nomenclature, pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, clinico-radiological features, and management of nonprogress...
متن کاملClinical and Imaging Characteristics of Arteriopathy Subtypes in Children with Arterial Ischemic Stroke: Results of the VIPS Study.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Childhood arteriopathies are rare but heterogenous, and difficult to diagnose and classify, especially by nonexperts. We quantified clinical and imaging characteristics associated with childhood arteriopathy subtypes to facilitate their diagnosis and classification in research and clinical settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Vascular Effects of Infection in Pediatric St...
متن کاملUnilateral intracranial arteriopathy in pediatric stroke: course, outcome, and prediction of reversible arteriopathy.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The nonprogressive, often reversible, unilateral arteriopathy known as transient (focal) cerebral arteriopathy has become a leading cause of childhood arterial ischemic stroke. However, it is not a well-recognized arteriopathy in East Asian countries where moyamoya disease is prevalent. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 74 children and adolescents (<18 years) with art...
متن کاملPredictors of cerebral arteriopathy in children with arterial ischemic stroke: results of the International Pediatric Stroke Study.
BACKGROUND Cerebral arteriopathies, including an idiopathic focal cerebral arteriopathy of childhood (FCA), are common in children with arterial ischemic stroke and strongly predictive of recurrence. To better understand these lesions, we measured predictors of arteriopathy within a large international series of children with arterial ischemic stroke. METHODS AND RESULTS Between January 2003 ...
